Can Cold Water Clean Dishes?

John went to visit his 90 year old grandfather in a very secluded, rural area. After spending a great evening chatting the night away, the next morning, John's grandfather prepared breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. However, John noticed a film like substance on his plate, and questioned his grandfather asking, "Are these plates clean?"

His grandfather replied, "They're as clean as cold water can get them. Just you go ahead and finish your meal, Sonny!"

For lunch the old man made hamburgers. Again, John was concerned about the plates as his appeared to have tiny specks around the edge that looked like dried egg and asked, "Are you sure these plates are clean?"

Without looking up the old man said, "I told you before, Sonny, those dishes are as clean as cold water can get them. Now don't you fret, I don't want to hear another word about it!"

Later that afternoon, John was on his way to a nearby town and as he was leaving, his grandfather's dog started to growl, and wouldn't let him pass. John yelled and said, "Grandfather, your dog won't let me get to my car".

Without diverting his attention from the football game he was watching on TV, the old man shouted,

"COLDWATER, GO LAY DOWN!!!!"

meme time ... (a first for me)

I was asked to participate in this meme ~ we are to tell seven (7) things about yourself ~ ~ ~

1.  When I was a little girl, about 5, I rode my bicycle ‘off' the front porch steps, right down the stairs.  Of course, I did not know how to ride without assistance, and the bike was on the front porch with the rear stand down and you could pedal and not go anywhere.  I don't know if they have this kind of stand on bicycles these days.  Anyway, I was pedaling very fast and being quite cocky and thought I was super cool.  Then the stand gave way and away I went, right down the six front steps, down the sidewalk until I fell over ~ and then I cried.  Of course, I didn't try ‘that' trick again!

2.  I like chocolate ~ milk chocolate ~ not the healthy dark chocolate ~ no way ~ I want the milky chocolate ~ favorite is Hershey kisses ~ may I give you a kiss?

3.  A bird pooped on me on a Sunday morning when I was about 12 as my brother and I were walking to church.  We lived in Detroit and the streets were lined with beautiful elm trees.  As you to would look ahead the trees looked like an arch of green and was very lovely.  We had to walk two long city blocks.  Well one of God's birdies decided to do his business as we were walking along.  I didn't notice it, but my brother did and he said, "a bird pooped on your coat, do we have to go back so you can change?"  I said, we don't have time to go back, and I took the coat off and turned it so it didn't show; when I got home I wanted mom to throw the coat away.  I don't know if she did, but I never wore it again.

4.  My first husband was in the Air Force and he was transferred to Hickam AFB in Hawaii ~ met some nice people there.  We did not live in military housing, but lived in Honolulu, at the base of the Punchbowl National Cemetery and attended Easter Sunrise Service at the Punchbowl ~ very special!  After we left Hawaii he was found to have bone cancer ~ I lost him shortly after that.  He was such a special person, we had a very special time in Hawaii, and I have fond memories of our time together!

5.  I am a cookie monster ~ I love chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal cookies ~ what am I saying ~ I love all cookies!

6.  Just in case you do not know this ~ I am a grandmother.  My second hubby and I had one son, John.  Well John married Janelle in 2000, and they have two children ~ Autumn and Adriano ~ in September the children will be 5 and 3.  Grammy loves to have the kidlets over for visits ~ lots and lots!

7.  I have so much to be thankful for ~ and I am!  I gave up my job and went to live with my stepmom for the better part of a year; she developed Alzheimer's disease a year or so ago.  I had made a promise to my father years ago when he was ill with Parkinson's that I would keep her in her home and never put her in a nursing home.  She would not have dad go to a nursing home and she cared for him, with our help, but mostly alone because he didn't want anyone else to care for him.  I am so thankful that I was able to keep that promise I made 12 years ago.  She went to be with dad a few months ago.  My employer honored me by having me return to work, on a part-time basis, but that suits me just fine at this time in my life.

This is the first meme I've done ~ I don't want to tag anyone, but if you want to ... run with it ... because we all like to read this stuff, right?

I wish you all well ~ ((hugs)

Pooh Bear lives here ... !

I like Pooh Bear and have several stuffed versions for the grandkids (okay, that sounds good). I also have a ceramic Pooh Bear that stands about 18-20" tall with some garden tools in his hands and he is in amongst my flowers to help me with the weeds; he does a good job too!

One night when my 2½ y/o grandson was to spend the night he was having a little trouble going to sleep. I knew enough to have a few night-lights strategically placed so it would not be too dark to a little guy in a place that would be a bit unfamiliar if he woke up in the night.

He had what seemed like a million questions to ask me, trying to stall time before he would actually fall asleep. Each time I just about figured he was asleep, he would ask me another question ~ "Do you have monsters here Grammy?

I calmly said that there were no monsters here. He asked, "Why?" I said, "Pooh Bear lives here and he doesn't allow any monsters in the house." To which he replied, "Okay" and with that he rolled over and went to sleep.

Thank you Pooh!

Good News for me!

I had my annual follow-up colonoscopy today due to my cancer surgery.  All went well and "I am clean" and do not have to return for such test until two years from now.  So they are able to space out the testing, and I liked the sound of that news.  I will still have an annual CAT scan this fall, and hopefully the results will be good as well.

Everyday of my life I feel so blessed to have survived colon cancer, and to have no metastases.  This has allowed me to continue my life and enjoy many pleasures I would not have wanted to miss.

So, anyone who has to have colon testing; please do not fear the test, or the prep.  It really is not that bad; just the prep is a little inconvenient as sedation is done for the test.

In my case the cancer was not present at a physical exam a year earlier, and was evident at the following exam just one month short of my next physical.   I had been tired and could not sleep and went to the doctor for ‘something to help me sleep' as I felt if I could just get a good night's sleep, I would not be "so tired."

I consider myself very lucky that I didn't ignore subtle symptoms, and sought help ~ and then things progressed very quickly with a series of various tests, etc. and eventually surgery with a very good result!  Then I had annual colonoscopy and CAT scan to keep track of how I was doing.  And today I was told I could space out the colonoscopy for two years ~ good news!

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle...

A mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee!

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full.. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else -- the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups.

Take your partner out to dinner.

Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter.

Set your priorities.

The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
