I saw a new doctor...
04.26.08 (12:22 am)   [edit]

I love this Doctor.

Q. I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life: is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it - don't waste them on exercise.  Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies.
What does a cow eat?  Hay and corn ~ and what are these?  Vegetables.   So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system.  Need grain?  Eat chicken.   Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable).   A pork chop can give you 100% of the RDA of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all.  Wine is made from fruit.  Brandy is distilled wine, that
means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the
goodness that way.  Beer is also made out of grain.  Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one.
If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry.  My philosophy is: No Pain ~ Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!   Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil.
In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely NOT!   When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger.
You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy?  HELLO!  Cocoa beans!  Another vegetable!!!
It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey!  'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition
and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beer, and eat lots of sausages and fats
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like.  Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Sunday, sweet Sunday...

Ahh, life is good!

The weather is perfect today in my neighborhood.  It is still 73 degrees F at 7:30 p.m.   The sun was shining all day with a gentle breeze and everything done today was such a joy.    After church my son and family invited me over for dinner.  It is always so nice to join them.  I feel so very fortunate in so many ways.

Now as I sit on my screened-in veranda I see a pair of mallard ducks across the yard at another area of shrubbery.  He is sitting and she seems to be preparing a nest.  I think there may be a family soon.  His color is so bright; hers is the dull brown that will blend in as she protects her young.

Oh, a bird just flitted up to the top of my light next to my porch.  There is a nest from last year and now I suppose someone else is moving in.  Of course this is just outside of the enclosure, next to the window and last year I could hear the babies chirp to the mother when they wanted more food.

My hyacinths are in full bloom and have a lovely fragrance ~ they will be gone soon, but the tulips are ready to bloom as the hyacinths fade.

Now I've got to see if I can get a camera and take some pictures ...

Nice if you to stop by ~ please do so again!

I have company ...
04.16.08 (1:13 am)   [edit]
My two grandkids, 5 and 3, are with me from about 3 o'clock Tuesday, staying overnight, and will leave tomorrow about 4 o'clock.

I made macaroni & cheese and hot dogs ‘n buns for dinner; a real hit for all of us.

We went for a walk after dinner for a little bit.  The game plan was to run some of their energy down, but unfortunately this granny couldn't do as much walking as last fall and so we returned after about 15 or 20 minutes.  I need some serious walking time to build my strength up again, so I'm looking forward to the nicer weather to do just that.

But in the short time we were out we saw two different pairs of mallards; one pair were drinking out of a dish a resident in the complex puts out under a big pine tree, for his cat I think, but perhaps also for the wildlife running around here.  His cat is only out briefly; and really shouldn't be out at all, according to the by-laws.  The grandson spotted the ducks drinking water and brought it to my attention.  He remembered seeing them at that same place from last year.  He asked me if they were the same ducks we saw last year; I didn't honestly know what to tell him.  Well what he said was, "Do they live there?"

Anyway, there were so many different birds singing and chirping and it was very pleasant.  You could clearly see them in the trees, as the trees are still quite bare from the winter and leaves will start coming out soon.  The kids would point the birds out to me and we would comment on how nicely they were chirping.   A robin in a tree near to where we were standing was singing very loudly and when he stopped singing/chirping my grandson ‘chirped' at the bird ~ the robin responded.  So both kids ‘talked to the birds' the rest of the way home.  It was such a sweet time!

I hope y'all are having pleasant times also.

Oh, almost forgot ~

before the kidlets arrived I went to the post office to ‘mail my taxes.'   I don't know why but I am later each year in filing my taxes; haven't gotten to the point that I'm driving by the post office at 11:45 p.m. as postal workers are at the curb awaiting our arrival.

Maybe next year!

:)

I had a glorious day on Sunday...
04.07.08 (4:43 am)   [edit]

I had a glorious day on Sunday.

The weather was so pleasant that one did not need to wear a jacket.  Finally the good weather shows up here in Michigan.

I had the pleasure of joining friends for dinner ~ and it was very delicious. The chef made pizza, and two choices at that ~ (spinach/feta/onion) and (sausage/tomato/cheese), and bruschetta.   For dessert we had homemade cheesecake w/assorted toppings if one wanted, and coffee!  I had never had feta cheese before and had been promised this spinach/feta pizza for some time and it was sooooo yummy ~ well worth the wait.

Afterward we played a game of Sequence.  I had not played it before so required a briefing, and then we played a real game.  I was on the losing team, but we still had a good time.  There was a bit of story telling and laughter and all in all it was a glorious day!  I love days like this!   Smile

I hope you all had a glorious Sunday as well.

 ((hugs))
